Residential Case Studies

The Dell

This uniquely located residential development was on Southampton's most historic landmark the city's own football ground 'The Dell'.

We carried out both the detailed planning design and construction drawing package for a mixture of 228 luxury apartments and townhouses in the city centre, both private and affordable accommodation.

The specific design approach used was to preserve some of the great memories by echoing the layout of the Dell. The four sided arrangement of the homes evokes the spectators' stands.

These surround a central landscaped courtyard which itself is on the exact site of the old pitch and indeed the old centre spot.

Due to its proximity to the city centre we were able to make use of and incorporate the city's district heating systems.

rose hill

This was a regeneration project to provide 254 new 2, 3, and 4 bedroom houses and apartments, with both private and affordable tenure.

We carried out both the detailed planning design and construction drawing package.The current housing in this area is characterised by inter-war style housing, with streets of terraced and semi-detached houses with a distinctive road layout of gently curving crescents.
The design proposals have resulted from the analysis of the area detailed above and the need to replace existing condemned or unfit for purpose existing dwellings.

The overall design and scope of development is partly determined by the desire to regenerate some areas of rose hill to deliver social and economic growth.

The redevelopment offered the opportunity to emphasise and reinforce the existing sense of place and local character of rose hill, whilst making best use of the areas of underutilised land and vacant plots.

Solar panels were provided on all the affordable units in line with the government's aim for sustainable development.

Cherque Farm, Lee-On-The Solent

A 100 acre site was formerly a quarry site owned by RMC.

Our brief was to provide 1050 dwellings, including 25% affordable housing provision in line with an outline planning consent.

We were actively involved from the initial master planning through to detailed planning consent and onto full construction drawings for each phase of the development.

Special consideration was given to local shopping areas, open space including sports pitches, laps, leaps, neaps and an extensive footpath/cycleway and non-car transportation network.

Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne, East Sussex;

Part of a new extensive marina and harbour side settlement, much of it built on reclaimed land.

We carried out both the detailed planning design and construction drawing package for initially 80 dwellings on phase 6 and a further 452 dwellings on phases 7 to 14.

Many of the dwellings have harbour, sea or marina views but those not benefiting from these views were compensated by an existing canal network and at the time the country's largest man-made water feature at 230m long incorporating an extensive lighting and fountain system.

Commercial Case Studies

County Wharf, Littlehampton, West Sussex;

A small individual office building designed for use for the Harbour Master on a prominent position on the River Arun.

This was at the end of an area of riverside redevelopment with part of this site also providing 25 apartments as well.

The redevelopment also meant that the riverside walkway could be extended from the town centre to existing amenity areas within the town.

Poole Quay, Poole, Dorset;

This development was on the site of the old Harbour Masters office which was replaced by a mixed use development consisting of 20 luxury apartments with A3 use on the ground floor fronting the quay.

Due to the constraints of the relatively small site with a road on two sides and buildings on the other two sides the building itself formed the site boundaries, therefore undercroft parking was provided within the curtilage at ground level.

An internal courtyard garden was provided for the apartments linked with split level walkways and terraces.
